Preparing for Peak Holiday Demand
During the holiday season, Grab Philippines sees a major increase in demand. Data from previous years shows a 19% rise in daily users and a 45% spike in ride bookings during December. For food and gift deliveries, demand jumps by 20% on peak holiday days, with nearly half of Grab’s users counting on the app for their festive meal deliveries. According to Grab Philippines Country Head, Ronald Roda, the app’s mission is to bring people closer together by easing the stress of holiday travel and errands.

According to Grab Philippines Country Head, Ronald Roda, the app’s mission is to bring people closer together by easing the stress of holiday travel and errands.
Roda shared, "Filipinos want to be fully present with their loved ones this Christmas. Our goal is to help them create special memories by making our services more reliable and accessible than ever."
Early Planning and Strategic Preparation
Ensuring smooth service during the holidays is no small task, and Grab has been preparing since January. Roda highlighted that Grab’s planning spans 10 months, involving close work with regulators, the introduction of new features, and the rollout of more drivers. This early preparation helps the company manage the extra demand while keeping its services dependable.
With additional Transport Network Vehicle Service (TNVS) slots approved in August, Grab has been steadily onboarding new drivers, a process that can take up to five months. This increase in driver-partners aims to balance out the high demand and minimize waiting times for users.
Keeping Rides Affordable and Accessible
Holiday traffic can slow down drivers, with trips taking an estimated 14% longer in December. To ensure fair earnings for drivers despite traffic challenges, Grab is monitoring fares closely. They’ve also expanded their GrabUnlimited subscription, offering an 8% discount on GrabCar rides, and introduced the affordable GrabCar Saver option.
“We’re working to keep our fares fair for both riders and drivers,” says Roda. “This way, drivers are motivated to continue working even during the holiday rush, helping us provide reliable service.”
Making Rides More Accessible and Affordable
Grab has introduced a Group Rides feature, allowing up to four people to share the cost of a ride, which lowers individual fares and maximizes fleet efficiency. Other features like Advance Booking let users schedule rides up to seven days in advance—ideal for people needing airport transfers during the busy travel season.
Expanding Delivery Options to Meet Holiday Needs
On the food delivery side, Grab has added features that make group ordering easier. The GrabFood Group Order option lets family members or friends place a collective order and get discounts based on the order size. The GrabFood Saver plan helps users save on delivery fees, while the Large Orders option allows for bulk orders with special deals.
Roda emphasized the company’s commitment to the holiday season, saying, “We know our users are looking forward to spending time with loved ones, and we’re working hard to make that easier for them. Our new features will help everyone be more present this holiday season.”
With these upgrades, Grab is preparing to support the needs of Filipino families through the holiday rush. Whether it’s a ride to a family gathering or a delivery of festive treats, Grab aims to make this holiday season smoother and more memorable for everyone.
