The Philippine solar industry is booming, with the Department of Energy (DOE) predicting that over 4,000 MW of new solar capacity will be added by the end of 2024. According to a study by MarkWide Research, the Philippine solar energy market is expected to grow by more than 35% annually until 2030.
But with this rapid growth, there are rising concerns about the safety of these systems, especially as fire incidents have increased by 34.4% in the first half of 2024, mostly in residential areas.
NRG introduced the SolarEdge Home ecosystem, which includes the new Home Hub Inverter, Home Battery, and Home Backup Interface. This all-in-one solution is designed to maximize energy savings and make homes more energy-independent by improving the efficiency of both power generation and storage.

NRG introduced the SolarEdge Home ecosystem, which includes the new Home Hub Inverter, Home Battery, and Home Backup Interface. This all-in-one solution is designed to maximize energy savings and make homes more energy-independent by improving the efficiency of both power generation and storage.
The SolarEdge Home Battery is a key component of this system. It’s a DC-coupled battery that stores 9.7kWh of energy, enough to power a 1.5hp air conditioner for 8 hours. Homeowners can connect up to three batteries per inverter, providing up to 29.1kWh of backup power.
This setup also allows for synchronization with additional SolarEdge inverters and future smart home devices. The DC-coupled design is more efficient, requiring only one power conversion to store energy, unlike older AC-coupled systems that need three conversions.
With the SolarEdge Home system, more energy from the sun is stored in the battery, which can then be used to power the home or provide extended backup during power outages. Homeowners can easily manage and monitor their solar energy usage, savings, and carbon footprint through the mySolarEdge app.
One of the standout features of the SolarEdge Home Battery is its UL9540A certification, a top-tier fire safety standard for energy storage systems. This certification underscores the battery’s advanced design and extensive testing, ensuring it offers protection against fire hazards and enhances the overall safety of the system.

The event also highlighted SolarEdge’s SafeDC technology and the module-level Rapid Shutdown Device, which complies with the Philippine Electrical Code. This system reduces DC voltage to just 1V during emergencies, such as grid failures or inverter shutdowns, significantly lowering the risk associated with high DC voltage and making the environment safer for both installers and emergency responders.
In addition to this, SolarEdge’s systems include Sense Connect technology and Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter (AFCI) capabilities. These features continuously monitor for potential electrical issues, automatically cutting off power and activating safety measures to prevent fires. The AFCI technology also meets international standards for detecting electrical arcs, further boosting the reliability and security of SolarEdge’s solar systems.

“The positive response to our new battery technology addresses critical safety concerns in the solar industry,” said Lance Dy, Vice President of Operations for Netsolar Inc. “With the rapid expansion of the Philippine solar market, it’s essential that our systems meet the highest safety standards. This launch is a major step toward providing Filipino homes with advanced, reliable, and safe solar solutions.”
SolarEdge has also been recognized globally for its sustainability efforts, being named one of the top 100 most sustainable companies by Corporate Knights in 2024. The company’s solar systems help eliminate over 40 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions every year.
Skyrocket Studios, Asia’s leading marketing technology company, is thrilled to work with NRG and SolarEdge to bring this cutting-edge and safe technology to Filipino homes.
